Week 11 of Zero Waste
It dawned on me today that 11 weeks is almost 3 months! I need to start coming up with some more imaginative titles for these posts. This week we got the shopping down to 30 minutes (excluding the 40 minutes of walking we did).
An added bonus of the meal planning is that we are throwing out less food due to only buying what we need for the planned meals and our fridge is nearly empty - which is saying something as it's a small European fridge. This is nice as it's less to clean and easy to see what we have to eat. We are keeping less food in the fridge too, as we are eating it quickly, things that we would normally put in the crisper and forget about are now on our table easy to see. I'll have to look into turning down the temp in the fridge if it will save much energy. This will also save us money as we were going to buy an American style fridge (ranging from 1,000-3,000€) for the new house complete with ice maker but we really have no use for that. We will just use what is there - or if anything downgrade to something smaller that is more energy efficient.
Shopping
39€ - pictured below
27€ in the english market
9€ in holland and barret
3€ in the health food store
We still have a few things to get in Dunnes but were off galavanting this weekend and will have to top up during the week but will probably only spend another 15-20€ there.
Meals
spaghetti
burgers
eggs/bacon
taco salad
chicken pan dinner
take-out
Nothing else really of note this week except:
My tastebuds may be adjusting to lack of processed foods as the basic meals we are putting together taste far better - this could also be because the food is more local and fresh
Found that bananas in the market are only slightly more expensive than Tesco (0.03 cents dearer per banana)
There was a busker in town this week wearing a horse head mask playing wild horses - this made me laugh.
That's it for this week. We've no real plans for next weekend so might try some more recipe's. Stay tuned.
