Week 2 of Zero Waste

This week we were a little less strict with our zero waste shopping. Colm is coeliac so there were some items we needed to get in plastic to avoid cross contamination (until we can make them ourselves or find zero waste alternatives) and I wanted regular milk again.

Shopping

The shopping this week took a bit longer again as we were still trying to find the best prices. We ended up going to 5 different shops/markets.

We still did pretty good and got all our produce and meat without packaging (7 meals worth - or so we thought, more on that next week). The only things we got in packaging was butter, milk, soup, gluten free sausages, gluten free corn bread, cat litter and mayo.

I should have taken a photo of the shop again but we had spent so long shopping I just wanted to be done.

Cost

I think we spent about 120€ this week but 20€ of that was on 2 filets of steak as a treat and we usually only buy 4-6 meals worth of food instead of 7 so still comparing to what we were spending before.

Bin Reduction

Our refuse output per week isn't reducing drastically just yet as we still have nowhere to put food waste and kitty litter and we are still getting through packaging we had from before but hoping to start seeing a reduction soon.

I'll keep it at that this week. Check back again next week for more progress/experiments.
